Matt 14:22 “Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said.
If that be the case, then Peter wanted to come to Jesus. Jesus expects his disciples to do what he does.
Frank Creedman wrote about this statement of Peter ” If it is you”. Mr Credman did a deep dive into the Greek, stating that a better translation is needed. What would be a better word translation? These words are not the way that the disciples spoke, especially Peter. Here is what Mr Creedman thought about what Peter said from the Greek, ” Seeing that it is you, let me walk to you.” We are in times when we are afraid of trusting the Word of God, spoken to us through His Word and His Spirit. Peter saw Jesus meandering while walking on the sea, as if out for a stroll with the Father. In the Church today, there is supernatural, but not today. The storms have gotten to us, and we are distracted by the threats of man or nature. Jesus is the exact vision of the Father. God in flesh, an arm we could touch, and a voice we heard. John wrote that “we have heard, touched and seen.”
I ask you today in your life if you have met Christ walking on the waters of your adveristy because He is in you. John 7:38: ” In your realizing that I am what the Scriptures are all about, you will discover uniquely for yourself, face to face with me, that you are what I am all about and rivers of living waters will gush out of your innermost being..” Mirror Bible
“Since it is you, or seeing that it is you,” what limits are you facing today? Jesus, a man was walking on water, which was impossible. Yet there He is with you, now in the hospital, the funeral home, the bank, the grocery store, in your work and play. Seeing that it is you, like Peter, He says to you come. Walk with me on these storms, these seemingly impossible circumstances and experience the Peace and Presence of the Living Christ in you. Jesus demonstrated the power of God in every circumstance, i.e., feeding the 5,000, raising the dead, and providing the money needed to pay a tax to the religious authorities of the day. What is your need? Do you see that it is Jesus that is with you?
I listened to a teaching by Malcolm Smith, who inspired this post today.
